The weather the day of our WAP visit was absolutely perfect and I think it contributed to the positive experience we had overall. The kids were well-behaved and chipper through most of the day, and they really soaked up what they were learning about the different animals we saw on the safari and in the more traditional “zoo” section of the park. Everyone’s favorites seemed to be the lions and the giant bugs. We saw cockroaches the size of credit cards, huge walking sticks and all sorts of big beetles and spiders. We saw a case for a “Haitian centipede” but apparently he was feeling a bit shy the day we visited and refused to come out. I was curious to see if it would be something Lulu could have seen before.

We saw a few multiracial families like ours and were definitely noticed by quite a few people around us. We met a family with Chinese and Vietnamese children, and saw other families with African American children and one with children from India. One man stopped my husband and started quizzing him about our family, asking about our adoptions and how many children we have. He then asked how we could afford so many children and Curtis assured him that the blessings come when you add to your family. I sneaked off and pretended I didn’t know the man was asking about our family. It was nice to get a break from the questions and it gave my husband some more good practice. ;)

All in all, it was a great day and a nice way to ease into what we have ahead of us. Tomorrow we have church with my parents and two of my sisters’ visiting families. We’ll do some get-your-ox-out-of-the-mire laundry and get ready to meet up with Wendy and her family on Monday. I can’t wait, but I’m also dreading leaving our babies with my parents for those days. I know they will be in very good hands and have a great time with their grandparents, but I also know I will miss them terribly.
