Disneyland, here we come! Part 1

OK, I’ve been keeping a little secret that I’m bursting at the seams to share: we’re going to Disneyland!

“OK, that sounds fun,” you say, “but what does it have to do with adoption?”

Much, my friend. Much.

You see, it all started when we began planning a “family honeymoon” of sorts for after the arrival of our three newest kids. We knew better than to head off on some fabulously wonderful vacation a week or two after they showed up because, one, we were broke, two, the pesky diarrhea problem would have put a damper on things, and three, we didn’t want our oldest new daughter thinking that American was, quite literally, Disneyland. But sufficient time has passed, savings have been replenished, and given that we are a homeschooling family and have the luxury of avoiding spring break and summer crowds, we feel now is the right time to make our mark on the land of Mickey.

So, there’s a least a loose adoption association there, right? But if that’s not enough for you, you’ll be pleased to know (at least I was!) that we will have guests: none other than Wendy, a la Haiti Adoption Blog and her fab family! We’ve been planning and scheming for quite some time and can hardly believe that our trip is right around the corner. I feel excited and sick all at once! (I have yet to find someone to care for our pets while we’re gone, but hope to have that taken care of at Young Women’s tonight.)

When our family travels, I confess that we all grow weary of the stares and comments, and I can’t help looking forward to being lost in the crowds of Disney and indistinguishable from the rest of the Joe Schmos spending $30 for a few Disney themed Mr. Potato Head parts. (Knock on wood – I don’t want for anyone to become literally lost – but figuratively is great, thanks.) But just in case we do stand out in the crowd, I’m glad we’ll have Wendy and her family there as partners in crime. They’ll have their six, and we’ll have our seven from the 3-and-up set, so I suppose we could get a little attention, but it will be easier to take in greater numbers, I think. Plus, I’m thinking of playing a little joke on Wendy. How does this sound?

“Heck no! None of them are mine! They’re all hers!”

Shhhh. Don’t tell her. ;)

HA! :-) You are hilarious, Tana! I'll go along with your joke. However, at least once, can we do the joke I've been concocting...shock people by claiming to be a polygamist family? You know, just for kicks? (One of out husbands will have to pretend to be a friend of the family!) ;-) Ha Ha Ha! :-) This is going to be so much fun.
