Since we couldn’t go on the roller coaster, the B family opted to go see a couple of shows in the Bug’s Life area, and we headed off to go on a few rides. The older kids and I went on a smaller roller coaster I can’t remember the name of (something about the streets of London and similar to the Wild Mouse at Lagoon) and it scared the heck out of me. I didn’t like being whipped out over the edge of the track and jerked from side to side, and Zoe hated it as much as I did. We gave Curtis and the boys the rest of our Fast Passes and Zoe, Maizie, Sofie and I decided to go on the ferris wheel. That was another big mistake. I will go on any roller coaster in the world, but I don’t enjoy being way up high if I’m not moving horizontally – and fast. We opted for the swinging gondolas rather than the stationary ones, and that made it even worse! The gondolas hung from these elliptical steel loops, so that as the ferris wheel turned, we’d start to slide down and then gain speed and be flung out crazily over the water. It was terrifying! From the ground it had looked like a nice, gentle swinging action, but inside the gondola, it felt as though we’d be catapulted into the lake. I hated it, and Zoe cried the whole time. Maizie and Sofie loved it. ;)
We went over to the Bug’s Life area to meet up with the B family and the kids rode a couple of rides there, the favorite being the bumper cars. We had a treat and then got word that the roller coaster was going again, so we hoofed it back over to the other side of the park. I felt a bit of trepidation about getting on the ride since people had been stranded at the top for well over 90 minutes (and the scary movie was still on my mind!), but it turned out to be the pinnacle of our ride experience. I loved it! This ride came with Chili Peppers accompaniment, as had Space Mountain, and that made it even better. The best part is the beginning, where you start out from being stationary and then go almost instantaneously screaming up a huge hill. It is seriously a great roller coaster. And much to my delight, both Lulu and Ethan went on with Curtis and me – twice! They loved it, and I love that I have a couple of roller coaster kids.
