I’ve been wanting to do a “day in the life” post for quite some time, and for a while, I considered just writing about what we do on an average day. But, I decided that might be a little too boring and not reflective of the wrenches that get thrown into our lives – pretty frequently, I might add.
I’ve said before that our large family subsists on routines. If it weren’t for routines and rules and expectations, we’d constantly be in a flux of chaos and I doubt we’d be able to get much accomplished. On the flip side, though, I think we strive to be as flexible as is reasonably possible. After all, when those wrenches get thrown our way, we can’t have the machinery simply seizing up; somehow, we have to keep going.
Today was somewhat atypical in part because I got to sleep in (which is an utter rarity!) and because we’re enjoying spring temperatures, but it still gives a good picture of what most of our days are like.
6:50 My husband agrees to get up, do some cleaning and get the kids ready for the day while I sleep in. Oh joy, oh bliss!!! I can’t actually sleep because I keep thinking about everything I should be doing, but I enjoy not having to do all my usual morning tasks.
8:45 I get up, make the bed, get myself ready.
9:30 I head downstairs to make sure everyone has eaten (some have, some haven’t) and start the laundry. Zoe made a whole slew of s’mores last night for desert, so the kids start campaigning to have the left over s’mores for breakfast. I relent because the sooner we get rid of those things, the sooner I won’t have to clean up graham cracker crumbs from every surface of the kitchen!
